Hardy Boys Meet 50 Shades of Grey

For all of those who thought this was the best book you've ever read, allow me to express a different opinion without the literary scud missiles heading my way.

My first suggestion would be to read the sample before buying. The idea of having three alpha males (former military) planning romantic parties seemed unusual. Sadly, it degenerated into silliness.

Imagine our three vets being given a person's name and where she works, but then asking their secretary to contact their buddy at the police station to get her contact info. Hello! Internet anyone? ??

The dialogue is pretty stiff. Our heroine says things like "gosh" during a three - way encounter.

Apparently this kind of sexual hijinks is the norm for our saucy trio, yet right after the action, one of them wants to stake his claim and fly solo with the heroine. So a couple of hours ago, you couldn't have figured that out?

Having three hot guys following strange women around to find our their favorite color and other preferences just got lame. If they followed you into the grocery store to pick up a few items, how would they know you liked lobster and filet mignon for a fancy night out? "Hey guys! She likes Cheerios, whole wheat bread and mint toothpaste!"

At one point in the book, our GI Joes need to get to the heroine a.s.a.p. The wannabe boyfriend complains that they had to haggle with someone to borrow the guy`s truck for a couple of hours. He makes a mental note to kick the guy`s butt for delaying them over the $100 price. So, action man, your girlfriend`s life is on the line. Why not toss the guy a thousand bucks? (Their company owns a freaking yacht.) Why not beat him up and grab his keys? This was too funny. I can hear it in my head. "Men, Lynn is in danger. Offer him $40. No, he wants $200. Try $60! She`s worth it!"

Couldn't decide on 1 star or two. Two because the book was only $.80. Definitely don't want to know more about what's coming next with Jack and Pepper. This wouldn't be on my reread list or as they would say in this book -- I. WOULD. NOT. READ. THIS. AGAIN.

Whoa! This book is SO not for me. I like sexy in a man. I don't like sleazy. And, I definitely think that men who ONLY view women as a quick fix for their raging hormones are sleazy. And threesomes? Nope. A real romance killer for me. I thought the premise for this book was cute. Three ex-military men setting up a service to help clueless men woo their women sounded unbelievable but promising. I saw all kinds of comedic value here. It didn't take too long for me to think that this wasn't going to be comedy. I am not one to mind a little over the top language, but this was waaaay out there. I really liked how the dude "fell" for the hot chick doing the yoga when he was only supposed to be investigating her. So, then, why did his next encounter with her lead to three-way sex with his buddy? That was so romantic. NOT.. I quit reading and deleted during the first three-way. I can only assume there will be many more. I just don't care.

I really wanted to like this book. It started out good and I was routing for Parker but he shares the girl he's supposed to like with his friend. Who does that?! Then he wants a relationship with her. Baby bye not my thing.

Walter Lanyon was highly respected as a spiritual teacher of Truth. Inspiring

Mr. Lanyon had an understanding of spirituality beyond anything I have ever read before. His writings are not for those who are unwilling to step outside of accepted religious teachings. He takes the truth-seeking reader into the depths of knowing the Father, beyond mere thought activity. It is all about seeking and finding. But you only can if you CAN!

The future consequences of the crisis depend upon whether there is a deepening of democratic institutions, including in the European Union.

Sylvia Walby offers an alternative framework within which to theorize crisis, drawing on complexity science and situating this within the wider field of study of risk, disaster and catastrophe. In doing so, she offers a critique and revision of the social science needed to understand the crisis.

Sylvia Walby is Distinguished Professor of Sociology and holder of the UNESCO Chair of Gender Research at Lancaster University. In her latest sociological text, "Crisis", she brings complexity theory to bear in a reconsideration of how society operates and how social crises of various kinds arise and propagate through their associated social institutions. The book examines the financial crisis of 2007/8, and shows how this generated a subsequent cascade of interconnected crises which continues even now, more than seven years later. She shows how financial collapse of the markets led to economic crisis, in the form of recession, which led on to fiscal crisis in the form of austerity, and so to political and democratic crises across Europe and thus to the continuing threat of collapse of the EU. The author explores the gender biases inherent within each of these crises and also looks at possible future trajectories, with likelihood of further financial collapse and a consequential deepening security crisis, by drawing comparisons with the global consequences of the historic financial crash of 1929. She doesn't go as far as to suggest that renewed world war might ensue, but the implication remains there.

The book presents a cogent narrative of the on-going crisis cascade and other consequences of the growth of the neoliberal project which, since the 1980s, has been ousting the post-war social democratic project and systematically eroding the regulation of the financial world, that was so carefully formulated in order to prevent a recurrence of the 1929 crisis -- with the ensuing rise of fascism, nationalism and ultimately the embroiling of almost the entire world in warfare. She shows that far from being self-equilibrating and more efficient, unregulated financial markets invariably become unstable, corrupt and corrosive: finance capital makes most profit during times of economic instability and so without regulation inevitably drives the world towards economic instability, disrupting the environment within which industrial capital (i.e. real productivity) thrives and generating gender and social inequalities. This in turn erodes democracy as states increasingly use the language of crisis to invoke emergency measures, whilst violence erupts and social cohesiveness is eroded.

The author does a reasonable job of keeping away from any complex social science jargon but the book remains a far from easy read, owing largely to its academic rigour and completeness -- ideal for the social science undergraduate, perhaps, but hard going for a lay reader, who will probably also find the book highly repetitive. The author builds her arguments systematically and slowly and at great length over the course of some six detailed chapters, with outer bracketing chapters offering Introduction and Conclusion; anyone wishing to cut quickly to the core of this book would do well to read just the first and final chapters in the first instance as these form a useful lead-in and overall summary of the book's conclusions in a condensed and easily understood way. The central chapters can then be referred to afterwards for a more detailed examination of each of the component steps in the crisis cascade, as well as a very thorough examination of their gender implications.

Proponents of the neoliberal project (and many supporters of recent UK governments) will no doubt find much within the covers of this book which they would wish to contest. As a detailed and academically rigorous argument for the reintroduction of financial regulation, the establishment of great social and gender equality, and deepening of democratic control, and in spelling out the consequences of failing in this, the book makes for very sobering reading.

About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

This is a great book for pre-schoolers and early readers!!!

This series by Margaret Rey is a wonderful introduction for preschoolers to stories with a simple plot line. In Curious George Visits the Zoo, George gets into mischief (which children can always relate to....) but redeems himself in the end by saving a young boy's balloon. In Curious George Visits the Fire Station, George is naughty when he rings the fire alarm, but again shows his better side when he rescues one of the firehouse puppies by climbing UP the firepole. In Curious George and the Pizza, he makes a mess trying his hand at tossing pizza dough into the air, but saves the day when he alone can make a crucial pizza delivery by climbing over a locked gate. Young children enjoy comparing the plots in this series. George is told not to get into trouble, he gets into trouble, then he exonerates himself. Parents, grandparents, teachers and child-care providers will all enjoy this series along with their youngsters!

Worth a look

This isn't a comprehensive manual of minimalism, so don't fall into that trap, as a coworker did. It does provide an overview of the principles of minimalism, but I didn't feel qualified as an expert (or even close) after studying it.
That said, I appreciated it because it's a collection of papers rather than the thoughts of one expert, and allowed me to explore differing opinions on some of the points of minimalism. Rather than laying out a formula for writers to follow, I thought it encouraged writers to think about the principles of minimalism and why or why not to adopt certain tenets.

Wonderful reference

I used this book for a class on User Centered Documentation and it was great. Unfortunately it just became out of print as we started the class, so getting a hold of it was very difficult, but definitely worth it. It is a great reference book for any technical communicator or documentation specialist. It is a collection of essays on user centered documentation design, as well as user analysis. I would be very pleased if they started printing it again!
