I love this author and this series

I love this author and this series. However this one was at times hard to follow. If you haven't read the others do not try to read this one. Second half of the story had so many different perspectives from so many different characters from all the previous novels that you would be extremely confused and unable to follow. Overall, its a good story with good characters that tug at your feelings, but she tries to fit so much of the past characters into the story that you tend to get overwhelmed and have to go back a page or two to reread and try to figure out what each character is responding to. I think she tried to fit too much into this story to tie it to the past ones and ended up loosing the main characters a little in the end. If you have read the others then maybe you can follow it better than I did.

Good, but sometimes a bit hard to follow

I have enjoyed the whole series, and I love the underlying sense of humor and whimsy. I do feel like there may have been a little too much going on with the various POVs. It would have been better to stick with the two main characters, I was confused at times and it pulled me out of the story trying to sort things out.

I want start this review off on a positive note. I am a big fan of this writer and have all her books that being said this was my least favorite of all her books. I was a little hesitant to get this book because it was about Kert but I got it regardless. I love the way she made me adore Kert, his character had so many layers which made him lovable. Kisme however the character wasn't as lovable and I know she was going for the whole opposite attract ... tough girl sweet guy but i think she missed the mark. The story was ok but as the other reviews noted, there where to many points of views, to many side stories at times it was so confusing that i had to re-read two or three times and I still felt like I was missing something. I also felt that there was'nt enough focus at the couple and their relationship. Not to mention the whole relationship with Kert and his mother. She came off rather selfish in a way and a bit unlikable, so did Dar's dad. I mean really the mom moves in with her boyfriend keeps it a secret for two months and pretends to live with Kert as has sex at her adults sons house on his furniture. Its bad enough finding you parents doing that but a boyfriend and in your house and the mom acts all hurt. Yes Kert might be a mom's boy but she made him that way not to mention that is that issues where he felt the need to protect his mother because of past abuse. So she let's her boyfriend call the shot and cuts off communication. am I the only one who see that as weird... There is more that the mom does but for some who has a close relationship with her son she sure kicks him to the curb quick.. I know there is so many i can say about this book but the many point it is a very confusing story. I wouldn't recommend this story but if its your first time reading this author I would try any of the others stories.

You don get much more global than that. "One Fine Day" is so beautiful it is almost painful, and it is its own signature piece. I don't thing that there is a bad cover, but my favorite is by the Diva Maria Callas.

Lily G. Blunt writes contemporary gay erotic romance. She loves to explore the relationship between two men and the intensity of their physical and emotional attraction. L’auteure avec « peindre le ciel », nous raconte avec une douceur infinie, malgré toute la mélancolie et la douleur parsemées au fil des pages, une histoire d’amour où les deux héros « Ben et Vinnie », deux jeunes hommes cabossés par la vie, vont s’aimer à s’en perdre …
Tout commence par une rencontre provoquée par Ben, qui est déjà en secret très attiré par Vinnie. Ce qu’il ignore c’est que de son côté, Vinnie craque aussi pour lui et ce depuis quelques mois déjà.
Ils vont apprendre à s’aimer, se découvrir tout en douceur. Même si Ben est plus entreprenant, pressant, Vinnie quant à lui, veut prendre son temps.
L’amour va devenir puissant, fusionnel, passionnel … mais à force de secret, de non-dit, de jalousie, tout vol en éclat…
Commence alors, le mal de l’autre, la solitude, la quête de soi et de l’autre, l’angoisse, se dire qu’on ne pourra plus aimer à nouveau …
Avec le soutien de ses amis, de la famille de Vinnie, Ben va se battre, s’accrocher et reprendre en douceur la place qu’il n’aurait jamais du laisser filer, celle qui est la sienne « au côté de Vinnie ».
Mais sauront-ils cette fois, se construire un amour fait d’acception de soi, de l’autre, de confiance …
Voilà donc un roman très tendre, très doux, débordant d’amour, de tristesse délivrée au fil des mots. On s’attache très vite aux personnages. Chacun à leur façon ont su me toucher.
Deux petits bémols : il y a peut-être un peu trop de sexe (j’ai eu la sensation que Ben était parfois un homme en rut, qu’il ne pensait qu’à cela… l’histoire est tellement belle et bien écrite, que je trouve cela légèrement grossier et inutile) et trop de je t’aime (cela rendait le récit parfois niaiseux…. L’amour est tellement présent dans les gestes, les regards, les mots …. Qu’il n’y avait pas pour ma part besoin qu’ils se disent si souvent « Je t’aime »)

It is a great book!!! It covers a wide range of subjects related to machine leaning not found in other books. It is well written and includes detailed reference list in each subject matter. The book should be useful for practitioners, graduate students and academics. I am glad I bought it.

Great Book!!! A Machine Learning must....

As a practitioner of Machine Learning, I am so amassed about Theodoridis' abilities to deliver fresh and precise content about the so fast evolving field of Machine Learning. This book is a must on the shelves of anybody calling herself or himself a data scientist. Sections like the ones about sparse data, Learning Kernels, Bayesian Non-Parametric Models, Probabilistic Graphical Models and Deep Learning make of this book a forefront reference on a field that is transforming the world.

Good but may be hard to follow

I'm still looking for a "perfect machine learning theory book": the one which is a pleasure to read and that covers most of concepts you see here and there all the time but always wanted to know how exactly they work: log-linear, maximum likelihood, MAP, least squares and MLS, expectation maximization, stochastic gradient descent, CRFs, mixtures of gaussian, and many others. I would like that the book explain to me why should I use this model or algorithm, why previous one would not be good? And I would like that the author take the time to carefully guide the reader throughout the theory, without leaving him alone with a bunch of matrix equations or integrals like if they were evident.

I'm not a novice in the AI: I have a PhD (not in the theoretical Machine Learning though) and several years of practical experience with the algorithms. But most of the time I use the algorithms and models like blackboxes. My goal, however, is not only be able to use the algorithms and know where and how each algorithm can be used, but really understand the math that drives each them.

Unfortunately, this is not the book that can help me with my goal. In the beginning of each chapter the author really tries to move slowly with a care to details, but very fast the math becomes the only language used on the page. If, in the middle of a section you didn't understand how equation 12 follows from equation 11, your only option is to skip the remainder of the section and this is very frustrating.

As an example, when presenting the "central limit theorem", the author writes "Consider N mutually independent random variables, each following its own distribution with mean values ... and variances ... Define a new random variable **as their sum**: ... Then the mean and variance of the new variable are given by...". Here, or before, no definition of a **sum of two random variables** was presented. But this is very important to understand, because later, for example, in the "Linear Regression" section of Chapter 3, the author writes "If we model the system as a linear combiner, the dependence relationship is written as: " (a linear combination of several random variables follows). What does this mean: a linear combination of ***random variables***? How is this related to the central limit theorem which says that by adding up several random variables, the resulting variable tends to have a gaussian distribution? Author, please don't hurry up, it's a book, not a NIPS paper!

Furthermore, the whole section "3.10.1 LINEAR REGRESSION: THE NONWHITE GAUSSIAN NOISE CASE" on page 84 cannot be directly understood from the text because the author does not explain how the joint log-likelihood function L(theta) for the model of y dependent on theta, x and nu can be constructed. The equation 3.57 gives the final expression for L(theta) but no clues on how to build it if we only have a linear model for y. I spent the whole evening just to understand that to build the joint log-likelihood function one has to transform the y = theta*x + nu into the expression p(y=yn | x=xn, theta, nu) and in order to obtain one such expression for each yn, one has to write p(y=yn | x=xn, theta, nu) = sum_k p(xn*theta=k)p(nu=yn - xn*theta). Then, the joint log likelihood L(theta) can be obtained as ln p(y=y1 | x=x1, theta, nu) + ln p(y=y2 | x=x2, theta, nu) + ... + ln p(y=yn | x=xn, theta, nu).

The problem with the information of the Web is that it is dispersed and often incomplete. If one decides to write a book on this subject, it has to be complete and self-contained. With this book, unfortunately, one still has to google, decrypt and guess things just too often to call the reading process a pleasure.
